    Official 3G & 4G in Thailand

4glite-1Now Thailand has official 3G and 4G after the international standard 2.1 GHz frequency bid auction in October last year.
On May 7, 2013 Advanced Info Service (“AIS”) becomes the first operator who launched 3G service packages. AIS promoted high quality of servicing as a significant point of this network. In the next day, True also made big surprise by its 4G launching. The network will serve firstly in downtown of Bangkok Metropolis. Then, 4G network will be expanded to 15 major provinces according to True’s planning. Such 4G servicing was made lawfully because the 3G license given by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) did not restrict any technology that the operators would use in their services. That was how True was the first telecommunication company which provided 4G service and network in Thailand.

4G referred by James and Partners Law Offices On May 9, 2013 Total Access Communication (“DTAC”) was the last operator that officially launched its services. Before the new 3G services, DTAC has launched TriNet network to public since last month. The TriNet network combined 75 MHz which is the highest maximum or widest channel to transfer data or bandwidth.4glite-2
Customer of the three operators would have 2 options to use 3G on 2.1 GHz Spectrum. They may get new sim cards for new numbers that can activate immediately or transfer service under “Mobile Number Portability” system with old numbers to same numbers of the new spectrum, 2.1 GHz. However, if Customers do not chose either options, then 3G services will still be available on the old spectrum such as AIS’s 900 MHz or True’s 850 MHz.
